Teatru Manoel is proud to present the talented and popular Versatile Brass Quintet on 7 April.

The Versatile Brass Quintet is a very popular Maltese brass ensemble founded by Paul Borg who plays the tuba. The other members are first trumpet Kevin Abela, second trumpet Jonathan Borg, French horn player Etienne Cutajar and trombone and euphonium player Jesmond Azzopardi. They are all widely experienced performers both in ensemble and as soloists and their passion for music have taken them all over the Maltese islands often taking part in important State occasions and also other high profile events.

The programme consists of arrangements of the overture The Poet and Peasant by Franz von Suppé, Fauré’s Pavane, the overture to Glinka’s Ruslan and Ludmila and of a selection of hits from Bernstein’s West Side Story. Besides there are two special arrangements of music by J. S. Bach in which some of the grand old man’s music is given a “blues” and “bossa nova” touch. There will also be Variations on a theme of Paganini by the Austrian-born British composer Joseph Horovitz and an original work for brass quintet Pezzo per quintetto di ottoni by Joseph Vella.

Performance start at 8pm. Tickets are at e20, e15 and e11.50. Bookings can be made by phoning the booking office on 2124 6389 or by sending an email on: [email protected]
