Another outpouring of threats and incitement on the FKNK website (TMID, 28 March) – how long is this government going to put up with this? These hysterical rantings not only make the hunters and their federation look bad in the eyes of everyone inside and outside of Malta, but make Malta itself look weak and intimidated.

Venomous bile such as: “I hope they blast every bird they see” (they’ve always done that anyway) “revenge”, “I agree with whom is going out” (illegally hunting). “We are afraid of no one.” Then the insinuation that if those of us who disagree with all the above had wings we too would be blasted, or did I read that wrong?

These comments bring to mind similar ones, made previously, like: “Bring wood, petrol, matches and set Malta alight.”

Those fools were traced and taken to court. I hope those responsible for these latest rabble rousing posts will be as well, and given sufficient penalty to make a clear message that this is not a country ruled by an anarchist clique.

I notice that all these posts urge others to do the dirty work. This raises the question that having been dull enough to follow this advice, or put another way, fired the bullets made by others, will those who incited law-breaking be prepared to chip in for the fines incurred by the law breakers or perhaps do the “time” for them? I think not!

Rabble rousers are by their very nature reluctant to lead by example, preferring others to face the consequences.

Of course, all this does wonders for the hunters’ and FKNK’s case in Europe. What a confirmation of the hunters’ credibility when it comes to the cry we so often hear of what jolly decent fellows they really are.

Finally, if the FKNK did sanction those posts then they too should be hauled before a judge.

If nothing is done, then the government’s own credibility in the eyes of Malta and Europe is going to suffer.
