I write to show my disgust at what Daphne Caruana Galizia had to say about animals in general (TMID, 9 April).

I was also referred to a particular website that she has and that she uses to further her quest

Indeed, from what I read and from what I can judge, this website is not for the faint-hearted or for the ‘squeamish’ (quotations are her words).

In fact, her inputs in this website reminds one of the 1960s Walt Disney villainess, Cruella de Vil, sprung out of the 101 Dalmatians.

Daphne, portraying herself as an expert in dogs, believes that “dogs that cannot be homed should be rounded up and put down” – killed, that is, if we had to remove the euphemism.

There is no place for animal sanctuaries or ‘concentration camps’ as she would call them. And “an injured stray should just be put down”.

As for cats or rather, defenceless kittens, she has “the most efficient solution... a few seconds in a bucket of water or a one-second whack over the head”.

She repeatedly says this and dwells on it and gives directions how to set about it.

I can go on and on, quoting our own Cruella de Vil’s words of wisdom. However, the least said, the better. Reading all this, all I could say to myself was – this woman gives nothing but negativity and sadness. She has certainly not received the gift of living alongside domestic animals, for all she says that hers is a “considered opinion... after having dogs for nearly 20 years”.

“There is no point in being sentimental”, according to her.

These are the thoughts of one who would have us all believe that she and hers belong to a different class simply due to upbringing and lineage. In fact, what she usually has to say about people she does not like, but especially animals, is nothing short of sheer vulgarity – well, the Maltese term hamallagni is more appropriate – at its worst! Absolutely disgusting.
