A number of correspondents have put in their contribution as to what needs to be done to solve the illegal immigrants problem being faced in the Maltese islands.

They all gave their own views and ideas, but I have not yet seen any fingers directed at the real culprits of the resultant situation. The real culprits are the leaders of those countries who have caused all this hardship, actually being suffered by those searching for a better life away from their own country.

Nobody has as yet pinpointed the real cause of the poverty and civil fighting.

The majority of illegal immigrants are coming from ex colonised countries.

Here is, in my opinion, one tangible solution to the problem facing us.

Action to be taken by our government, together with the opposition and why not, also in conjunction with any other political party;-

1) First step is to see from where each and every immigrant is coming;

2) Check which European country was colonising each of these countries. Among which one finds the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Germany, Belgium and The Netherlands.

3) Demand that these illegal immigrants be accepted with immediate effect by the respective former colonising country.

4) This way they will be shouldering the responsibility for what they left behind when they left each respective country.

5)Theirs was the responsibility and theirs should be the burden.

6) We do not have to discuss or obtain derogations or sign any agreements. We only keep on using the veto until they see reason.

This is a situation where Malta does not accept charity.

We ask those signatories of the October – burden sharing – agreement (who years ago were responsible of the colonisation of these countries) to start organising themselves to receive these immigrants immediately. If they cannot accept more immigrants, neither can we.

Malta knows its responsibility to save human lives and help those in need. We do our share because we are human beings ourselves. However, all EU countries should realise that we have gone over the limit of our patience in hearing soft talk as to what should be done.

All foreign ambassadors please note and refer back to your countries. The recent riots, as reported in the media, should be eye openers to all concerned.
