Waterpolo – Bank Of Valletta winter league: Easy wins for Sliema and Neptunes

In the first match after the Easter break, Sliema easily overcame a rather tame San Giljan side who did not put up the fight they had previously attempted against Neptunes, The first session saw Sliema establish a two goal cushion through two goals from Soler. The second session ended 1-1 with Valletta and Bianchi scoring for both sides.

The third session saw Sliema increasing their lead through goals by Meli Rizzo and Spiteri Staines whilst Pace pulled one back for San Giljan. In the fourth session, Borg Spiteri made it 3-6 but two goals by Paolella and Lubrano made it 8-3 for Sliema followed by Lubrano with Pace closing for a final result of 9-4 to Sliema.

In the second match of the morning, Neptunes were looking to reassert themselves at the top of the table against Sirens. Stellini opened the scoring with a fine long range shot in the first session. With lanzon making it 2-0 for Neptunes. Karl Galea further increased the lead after a fine move involving Lanzon and Stellini.

Camilleri made it 4-0 at the end of the second session to make the encounter rather one sided. Stellini made it 5-0 with a powerful shot from an angle with Galea making it 6-0 with a fine backward shot. Cachia made it 7-0 before the end with an encounter that had seriously lost interest by now.

Sirens made it onto the scoresheet with a penalty taken by Jurgen Debono with Lanzon making it 8-1 from a counter. Borg made it 2-8 and Cutajar made it 3-8 with Sirens attempting a revival. The fourth session began with Galea making it 9-2 and Lanzon making it 10-2 with a fine shot from a distance. Stellini closed the scoring with a breakaway goal to make it 11-2.

In the final match of the programme exiles squared off against the ASA U-20 side in a match that did not count for points. Exiles opened the score through Calleja and doubled through Pace Lupi. Spiteri Staines made it 1-2 with a fine angled shot. The second session saw Exiles reassert their two goal lead through Sullivan but Borg immediately made it 2-3 with Cini making it 4-2 after an error by Borg Cole. Spiteri Staines made it 3-4 for the ASA with Sullivan making it 5-3 for Exiles with another fine shot and 6-3 with a good conclusion by Calleja.

The third session ended 3-2 in favour of the ASA U-20 side with goals by Rizzo Naudi, Pace Lupi, Spiteri Staines J, Spiteri Staines M and P Borg. The final session finished 2-1 in favour of the ASA with goals scored by Pace Lupi, Borgand Agius for a final score of 9-8 in favour of Exiles.
