This special hand postmark will be used on Saturday (25 April) at the MaltaPost Sliema Branch.

A limited number of 500 commemorative covers, which have been issued for the same occasion and in aid of ‘Puttinu Cares – Children’s Cancer Support Group’, will also be for sale from Sliema Branch and from the MaltaPost Mobile Unit at the Marsa Sports Grounds during the marathon for the same cause being held this weekend. As from next Monday these covers will also be for sale at the Marsa (Head Office) branch.

Stephen Azzopardi, representing MaltaPost and coach of Sliema Wanderers told the press that the club and MaltaPost had agreed that all proceeds from this initiative will go towards the Puttinu Cares – Children’s Cancer Support Group. In fact, he revealed that all expenses involved will be covered by sponsors, among them, Michael Camilleri, Steve Abela (Sliema W. president), players and officials of Sliema W., MaltaPost, Daniel Mangani and Dr V. Calvagna.

Dr Calvagna said the Group this year has earmarked the sum of euros 200,000, that is, double the figure of last year, to be collected during this year’s football marathon.

He announced that such funds are being directed to pay for the three apartments bought by the Group in Sutton, London, England, where local children suffering from cancer are given proper treatment for their illness.

He thanked MaltaPost and Sliema W. for their initiative adding that this was just one example of solidarity with these ill people and their families.

The postmark and covers can also be obtained from the Philatelic Bureau, 305, Triq Hal-Qormi, Marsa MTP 1001, telephone 2596 1749, or e-mail: [email protected].
