I refer to the letter entitled “Always on Sundays” by Vladibov Bov (TMIS, 19 April).
Your correspondent asked why Water Services Corporation workers always seem to repair faults on Sundays and public holidays, and also questioned where taxpayers’ money is going. I wish to inform readers that WSC maintenance staff work on a shift basis, meaning that there are no extra expenses incurred on weekends and public holidays.
As to why your reader often sees no water where workers dig to repair pipes, this is because it depends on what lies underneath the surface, as water often seeps downwards unseen. This is why our specialized leak-detection teams work in the quiet hours of the night to try and detect leaks using sensitive listening equipment. Mr Bov is more than welcome to visit our website www.wsc.com.mt where he may access our annual reports and other information on how the corporation works.
