I have been following the latest developments on illegal immigration and I felt I had to do something about it. I came across a very interesting site called tellBarroso.eu and I wrote the following:

“If the EU is not going to take any serious action on the issue of illegal immigration the problem is going to become impossible. The EU needs to create opportunities to help Africans live a decent life with dignity in their own country. How can we ever hope to achieve the United Nations Millennium Development Goals to reduce poverty by 2015?

“The EU has allowed the situation to get out of hand. It is letting a large and powerful country like Italy bully its way with a small country like Malta. The EU has a history of ignoring similar situations in the heart of Europe which led to huge conflicts and war like Kosovo. Is history going to repeat itself?

“People like Roberto Maroni and Flavio Tosi (both from Italy’s Lega Nord) have put Malta and the Maltese Government in a very bad light. On the Italian media they have projected the Maltese as a heartless race. They are also instilling hatred towards the illegal immigrants themselves. They are doing this because they want to gain the ground they are losing in the EU June elections. “I admire Dr Simon Busuttil for speaking up for us in the European Parliament. I thank the Maltese Government for taking the stand it took. I thank the leader of the Labour Party for supporting this stand.

“On this issue we are united and we expect the EU to take action NOW before it is too late.”

I would like to encourage all readers of The Malta Independent to log on to tellBarroso.eu and let the EU know that we are expecting it to take action and things to change.

Today’s technology allows us to be forceful without being violent.
