I am no Eurovision fan, and I do not want to come across as someone who is all out for news about the song contest. But it does amuse me how much my fellow Maltese give importance to something that, after all, will not change our lives. If anything, it would make us “poorer” had we to organise it.
Having said this, I was flipping through television channels last Friday and saw Chiara, who is to represent Malta again this year. I forced myself to watch five minutes just to try to get a glimpse of what is going on, and I could not believe it when she said that the Maltese people have shown her hdura, which translated literally would be “hate”.
How can Chiara say such things when she is getting so much attention from the media (doesn’t Xarabank have anything better to do?) and, from what I gather, so much dedication in her quest to win the contest?
She should be ashamed to say such things, and instead should appreciate that were it not for the Maltese, who give her so much (undeserved) attention, she would not have become so popular. She should thank the Maltese people every minute of her life, not say that they hate her.
I think that success has gone to her head. Even though she placed well the two times she participated, I think she should be thankful that the Maltese are (unfortunately) so engrossed in the Eurovision contest, which it has served to boost what would have otherwise not been such a successful career.
I believe that Chiara should apologise for what she said at the first opportunity.
