On Queuing

Malta Independent Sunday, 10 May 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 18 years ago

I must write something about the article “ A Lidl crazy… or the sign of the times” by Josanne Cassar (TMIS, 3 May).

First of all, there is nothing to be ashamed of in queuing for a bargain; it is not something only the Maltese do. We have seen people camping outside department stores (e.g. Harrods) in London, Milan, New York and other big cities to be the first admitted when the stores open.

Something else about Lidl, Tal-Lira, Euro Family etc. is that with them opening we are now buying cheap what we, before, paid very dearly for. The quality is the same as that of most goods for which we used to pay through the nose.

These stores are doing us a favour while exposing how other merchants were stealing our money from us.
