The President’s Palace

Malta Independent Sunday, 10 May 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 18 years ago

It was with great pleasure that I read what Prime Minister Gonzi said about the President’s Palace being eventually utilized as a place to house permanent collections. Just as it was a great pleasure to learn of Judge Giovanni Bonello’s involvement.

Again, I cast my mind to Florence and think about the Pitti Palace, which was once the home of the Grand Duke that had several components of the family living in different private apartments. Today, the Pitti Palace houses the Palatine Gallery, The Silver Museum, The Costume Museum, The Porcelain Museum, The Museum of Modern Art and The Museum of Carriages.

Could there be similarities in the way our collections will be rationalized? Whatever. The possibilities are endless and the happiness I felt when reading the press release was immense.

Who knows? It might even have a beautiful studio with views of Valletta all round, dedicated entirely to the teaching of children, the draughtsmen of tomorrow.
