Joseph Muscat has not stopped attacking the government over the Italo-Maltese immigration clash.

Does Dr Muscat really believe he is working in the best national interest when he attacks his own country? Does he not realise that his attempt at weakening Malta’s government can only strengthen the foreign government’s position?

Not only has Dr Muscat not supported the government in any way, but his “new way of doing politics” is focusing on thwarting the government’s development rather than putting constructive and concrete proposals on the table.

Summer is on our doorstep and the influx of immigrants will soon reach nightmare proportions. In the national interest, Labour would do well to pull at the same rope together with the government, at least on this crucial issue.

That is the only truly successful direction it should follow.
