New Black Belt For the YingYang Club

Malta Independent Monday, 11 May 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Last month the Malta Kick Boxing Association (MKBA) organised yet another grading for its athletes. A total of 50 kickboxers from the different clubs in Malta took part in this grading so they could achieve their next belt in this discipline.

Among all these athletes 20 of them are members of the Ying Yang Kickboxing Club. Master Noel Mercieca, the founder of the club, has been training these kickboxers for the past three months so they could give their best in the grading.

The kickboxers were graded depending on their belt level. Due to this difference they had to perform different kickboxing techniques. The time for each given to each belt varied from one hour and half for the White Belts to four hours for the Black Belts.

One of the athletes was Lyonne Carabott (photo, left) which managed to get her Black Belt. Carabott has been training with the Ying Yang Club for almost nine years under the watchful eye of Master Noel Mercieca.

She had to undertake a strenuous four hour grading under the direction of Kancho Adrian Axisa, founder of the MKBA. Now Lyonne is part of the 9 Black Belts and the third female Black Belt in the club.

The Ying Yang Kickboxing Club is part of the World Kickboxing Network (WKN), which organises international competitions even on professional level. Master Mercieca even trained a number of his students in the sport of Boxing and even represented Malta, and won in an international competition.
