Time For change

Malta Independent Saturday, 16 May 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

I refer to the letter Might is not right (TMID, 12 May) to say that I totally agree that something should be done immediately to resolve the situation in Marsascala. What I don’t agree with is speed bumps. More severe fines for reckless driving, abuse of public property and disturbance of public peace would probably be a better solution.

Unfortunately, the Marsascala local council is possibly one of the worst managed local councils in the south. The pavements are a fine example of this. They are a health hazard for anybody to use. There are pavements that are inclined inwards or outwards by more than 20 degrees to accommodate garage owners, and added with poor lighting which exists in most parts of Marsascala’s side streets, this becomes extremely dangerous.

Cars are constantly parked in driveways sticking out onto the pavement, and rubbish bags in several junctions occupy most or all of the pavement every night. Another abuse is the boats and unregistered cars parked in parking bays aggravating the parking problem.

What does the present local council do about all this? Nothing, absolutely nothing. Yes the elections are soon with us, if you really want matters to change.

Maybe it is time for a change in the council.
