A New administrative centre for Fgura

Malta Independent Sunday, 17 May 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

One of the most important proposals in the electoral programme, presented by the Fgura PN candidates contesting the 6 June local elections, is the building of a new administrative centre in the centre of Fgura.

About five years ago, the Fgura local council had unanimously approved to buy two houses in Hompesch Road, and develop them into a much-needed administrative centre. The present local council office in Fgura is in a small first floor maisonette, away from the central zone and is not accessible to everyone.

The proposed offices will be much bigger, and are intended to offer other services that go beyond those normally provided by local councils.

The aim of the new local council reforms announced by Parliamentary Secretary Chris Said, is that residents are given a better service. This can be done through the implementation of this project, which can be developed on four floors, including a basement. The new administrative centre is big enough to offer services provided by government departments, as well as a day centre for the elderly and space for local organisations, including a community hall.

The PN councillors who will be elected in the 6 June elections are committed to this project that will be on their list of priorities for Fgura.
