To make a difference, our five elected representatives in the European Parliament should work as a team in the interest of our country. To carry their weight individually they must perforce, work hard and lobby successfully within a larger European Parliamentary group.
When Simon Busuttil succeeded in placing Malta’s immigration plight on the European Parliament’s agenda it was thanks to his art of persuasion and hard work.
While the two Nationalist Members of Parliament succeeded in influencing the members within the EPP-ED Group translating their two votes into 288 votes, the three Labour representatives failed to influence the members of the PES group who voted to give immigrants the right to vote in Malta.
