Lest We forget

Nearly three weeks have now passed since the discovery of the canine concentration camp which has shocked many, but what has happened since then? Has the person responsible for this atrocious act been charged? Will he be brought to justice for the horrors he has inflicted on the poor dogs? Shame on all those concerned if this is not taken further.

I have two lovely Smooth Fox Terriers myself – both unwanted and one of them picked up from the streets as a pup in a sorry state. Thus, such news was even more shocking knowing the pleasant nature of these dogs. Noisy they are; enthusiastically playful; affectionate and ready for a good run any time; apart from their genetic trait of being clever. Due to their lively nature, the horrendous cooped up state that the Birkirkara dogs found themselves in, is so much more distressing.

A proper legislation against all forms of animal abuse should be enacted without delay – and please don’t leave it till the next election, and the next election, and next election – otherwise there will not be any animals left !

The dog is a gentleman; I hope to go to his heaven, not man’s (Mark Twain, Letter to W D Howells, 4 February 1899)
