Recommending A national block vote

Malta Independent Sunday, 31 May 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

It would be a pity to have our members of the EU Parliament chosen for us by bipartisan Nationalist vs Labour political marketing, as the bulk of the posters being thrown up around Malta enthuse.

We are regularly treated as dim-witted objects incapable of making an informed judgment more than a colour code. Why is it that both parties field so many candidates? So that when we have exhausted our supply of 1,2,3 etc votes on the candidates of our preferred colour, all other numbers will be so far down the line as to be useless.

Therefore, I suggest to all and sundry to block vote in this cross-party pattern.

In whatever order of your top five, vote for Simon Busuttil, Edward Scicluna and Arnold Cassola, Marlene Mizzi and Roberta Tedesco Triccas

This way we will have five people of a certain political (not Political), academic and industrial strength representing our country – people who would make us all proud.

Two lawyers specialized in EU-related law, one respected economist, one international politician interested in the environment and one successful international businesswoman. A combination of skill, savvy and sexually balanced to boot (after all half this country is made up of women).

For those who think having Prof. Cassola is not worth it, think of the huge benefits for all of us of having a Maltese MEP to wail about regarding our own preferred political party not delivering without loading the cannon of the opposing party to use against our own. Still not convinced?
