Thanks Sharon

Malta Independent Tuesday, 2 June 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Allow me to publicly thank one of the candidates for the forthcoming election of the EU Parliament, Sharon Ellul Bonici, who in our campaign against the waste recycling facility in Marsascala, had bestowed her full support and assistance so that this plant would not start operating as proposed.

Through her vast experience in the EU, Sharon believed that the government intentions in this regard were against the policy of the EU. Consequently Sharon had worked incessantly to coordinate a six-man delegation from the Commitee Against the Recycling Plant as Proposed for a number of meetings in Strasbourg. The delegation was composed of committee chairman and Fgura mayor Darren Marmara, Gudja mayor John Mary Calleja, Dr Owen Bonnici – Marsascala former vice mayor serving as legal counsel, secretary Joe Sant, coordinator Steve Borg and Paul Cutajar as assistant secretary.

Full credit must be given to Sharon as it was due to her industrious endeavours and skills in ensuring that ample time was given for us to air our opinions, qualms and dissent. This apart from the fact that we noted with pleasure how Sharon enjoys great respect with European Parliament personnel, irrespective of their political beliefs.

It is people like Sharon what our country needs to send out our message before the EU. Although Sharon is neither a member in the Maltese Parliament nor a minister in the European Parliament, Sharon felt that it is her duty to represent our concerns before the EU.

Subsequently it is in my believes, as like many other people, that once Sharon will be given a five-year mandate to represent our country in the European Parliament, she will be listening to the Maltese citizens and reflect their concerns while doing enough to ensure that Malta is succeeding within the EU. It is in my believes that Sharon will lead our country and be a proud representative of socialism in the EU.
