Given that electoral law stipulates a national spending limit per candidate for European Parliament electioneering purposes of €18,200, the prompt submission of its electoral expenditure of e14,300 to the media by Alternattiva Demokratika not only substantively corroborates the Green Party’s credentials as a clean, transparent and accountable political party, but attests to the integrity and consistent credibility of its MEP candidates, Arnold Cassola and Yvonne Arqueros Ebejer. Their conduct constitutes a stark contrast to the secretive stance of many other MEP candidates. ‘Legally, these (overspending) candidates will be left with two options when the campaign is over: Either take a false oath or make a false declaration of expenses.’
