Reference is made to a letter Cirkewwa walkway signed by Joseph Calleja of Manteca, California (TMID, 28 May).

The Mellieha Local Council is well aware of the danger that exists all along the Cirkewwa Road promenade. As this road forms part of the arterial road network that falls under the remit of the Public Transport Authority, various representations have been made over the years with the authority to take action. In order to eliminate this shortcoming, the local council has also offered a helping hand to shoulder part of the expenses involved.

One ray of light at the end of this tunnel is the long awaited upgrading of the stretch under reference through the funds made available by the EU, since Cirkewwa Road forms part of the TEN-T Road Network.
