Rugby Changing rooms

Malta Independent Friday, 5 June 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 18 years ago

Reference is being made to the back page story Give Malta a rugby pitch (TMI 1 June 2009). The Kunsill Malti ghall-iSport (KMS) is pleased to note that the Malta Rugby Football Union (MRFU) recognises the fact that it is leasing two pitches from KMS, at a heavily subsidised rate, for rugby training and competition sessions, while refusing two government offers to administer two different pitches. KMS however objects to the statement that “only one changing room is available in Marsa”.

The changing room that is being referred to in the story is granted to the MRFU by the KMS free of charge. On the other hand, the MRFU has been granted a large room in the same area measuring circa 6.2 x 15.5 metres which could easily be converted into changing rooms and leave adequate space for a meeting room. MRFU chose to convert this area into a bar with meeting room facilities.

As Ms Debono, MRFU Treasurer, implied in her comments, it seems that running a bar is far more important for the association and it prevails on matters such as whether to have other changing rooms or even a stadium.
