On reading Valerie Borg’s contribution Some bright sparks (TMID, 13 May), I could very well imagine the great amount of “bright sparks” coming out of her, while she was reminding us that her beloved PL lost last three consecutive general elections and in between a Referendum (and what a Referendum). She consoles herself by stating that the present government is of “a few chosen people and not of the absolute majority of the Maltese”.
Dear Valerie, you perfectly well know that this is not the case. In a democracy like ours, there is something else that is called a “relative majority”, and that majority makes this government a legitimate one.
It was only In Mintoff’s time in 1981 that we had an illegitimate government, and precisely then that we had a government of the “chosen few”. Our people should not forget the hell in which we went through between 1981 and 1987 when the PL members of Parliament glued themselves to the seats.
