Last in the cycle of spring/summer 2009 cultural presentations organised by Din l-Art Helwa is that by Annalise Falzon being held on Thursday, 11 June, and will focus on the habitats, biodiversity and unique landscape of Il-Majjistral Nature and History Park in the north-west of Malta.
Despite the small size and high density of population, our islands still support a very interesting array of landscapes, habitats and biodiversity. Ms Falzon, who is the Communications Officer and Nature Walks Guide for the Park will illustrate the great natural and historic value of this area of Malta which was designated by Act of Parliament in 2007 as a conservation area to be enjoyed by the public in its natural state. The Park, which extends along the coast from Ir-Ramla tal-Mixquqa (Golden Bay) to Il-Prajjet (Anchor Bay) l/o Mellieha is managed jointly by the Majjistral Park Federation which is made up of three NGOs, Din l-Art Helwa, the Gaia Foundation and Nature Trust.
Ms Falzon (BA, Dip.Env.Sc) is also a freelance tourist guide and environmental educator. She has been active in voluntary environmental NGOs for more than five years namely ARBOR, Marine Life Care Group and the Society for the Study and Conservation of Nature (now collectively known as Nature Trust Malta). She sits on the Nature Trust Council and has co-authored Malta, Gozo and Comino – Off the Beaten Track, a Nature Trust guide for the local countryside.
The lecture, which will commence at 6pm, will be held at 133 Melita Street, Valletta, headquarters of Din l-Art Helwa. Admission is free of charge but donations towards Din l-Art Helwa’s restoration programmes are appreciated.
