Artists Dennis Calleya and Kevin Attard should be congratulated for a very original exhibition of drawings and filigree they put up at the Museum of Fine Arts in Valletta. The two managed to blend together the art of making filigree and the art of drawing. Each filigree object had its counterpart in a drawing.
Named “Raw and Pure”, the exhibition was set up in the halls housing the paintings of Matthia Preti and guests took the occasion to also admire these renowned paintings. Music by a quartet from the Junior College Orchestra directed by Maestro Manoel Pirotta enhanced the occasion.
The drawings were set in glass caskets and each filigree counterpart was set on top of the glass surface. Inaugurating the exhibition, Dr Louis Lagana gave a short address in which he praised the artists for their intricate work and said that the Museum of Fine Arts encourages similar initiatives and is only too pleased to stage such an exhibition.
