For many Sunday is a tranquil day when all we want to do is relax and enjoy ourselves before another week of work comes along.
Well last Sunday at about 4pm I was enjoying a coffee and dessert with a friend at one of the new restaurants up the road from the Eden Cinemas, in St Julians watching a few tourists walking by.
Unfortunately every five minutes or so the peace was completely disturbed by a number of fully-decked out cars racing up the hill – speeding ahead like they were in a car-chase. The driver would specifically stop in front of the cafe rev up the turbo engine as loud as possible in front of everyone – and speed up the hill like he was a stunt-man in an episode of the Fast & Furious while his girlfriend was flung back in her seat with the speed!
This ‘wild west’ behaviour was perpetrated by at least four or five different cars in a row – with a loud thumping noise – clearly friends or people into racing and showing off the power of their engine... in this very public place with many locals and tourists walking by.
I would suggest that a few police officers post themselves outside Hugo’s restaurant up the road from the Eden Cinemas and make sure this behaviour is stopped.
Apart from the excruciating loud noise, these drivers are both dangerous and highly embarrassing.
I wouldn’t blame tourists for thinking some Maltese got stuck in the cow-boy era! Also shame on the girls in the passenger-seats for not telling their boyfriends off for being so stupid. If they think they looked cool they are totally off-track. It was somewhere between pathetic and just plain wrong.
