Now that the elections are over we should ponder and act accordingly. The message is loud and clear. Listen to the people, analyse profoundly and think out the reasons for such an outcome. Both major parties in their own ways gave a picture relative to their expectations. Both admitted their shortcomings.
My reaction is that the victory is allotted to the non-voters or those who abstained, which in my opinion is a shame. Yes, I say a big shame; for how can you sustain your criticism without casting your vote?
Yes, it is a right not to vote, but can this bring true democracy when you throw away your vote and declare mistrust in your country’s politics?
Hopefully this issue will be taken up by both parties. They should work to instil in us the importance of exercising our right to vote.
