The article by Franco Farrugia (TMID 19 June) on making life easier for animals is extremely good. So good that it leaves me nothing to add... except the fear from sand-flies!

Yes, I genuinely advise all dog lovers to protect their dogs against Canine Lesmaniasis by using special collars and / or drops. Citronella, which comes in various handy forms (sprays, lotions, candles, impregnated sponges, amongst others) also offers some (but not full) protection for dogs against this very tiny, nasty insect.

As I take no second chances, even though my dogs are adequately protected against this dreaded insect, I never take my dogs out for a walk between sunset and sunrise during the months of April to November.
