Birkirkara Face difficult task against Slaven Belupo

Birkirkara will be facing an arduous task when facing Slaven Belupo of Croatia in the first leg of their first qualifying round tie in Croatia this evening (kick-off 7pm).

The Stripes have had a somewhat indifferent start to the season losing their two matches in the Euro Cup against Valletta (0-2) and Hibernians (0-4).

After the departure of former chairman Victor Zammit, the club's administration is still trying to explore ways and means of how to strengthen the side and this week's signature of Sylvano Comvalius confirms that they are prepared to invest to try and challenge for the honours this season.

However, Slaven may prove to be very tough opponents, as Marsaxlokk can confirm after having met them twice last season, losing 4-0 at home and away.

The Stripes are now under the charge of Paul Zammit, but it is a fact that the former City coach has not even been at helm for one week and that will certainly make things more difficult for the team this evening.

Without any doubt, Zammit's plan will be to try and concentrate on defence in an effort to get away from Croatia with a respectable result, if not a positive one.
