The Real ‘Partit Liberali Xellugi’

Malta Independent Friday, 3 July 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

On reading the article Is ‘Partit Liberali Xellugi’ the next party, (TMID, 30 June), I thought I was reading a joke, since the article is so funny as it does not mention any person who is supposedly organising the party, nor does it mention any details such as where to contact such person.

I am also writing to confirm that our Liberal Party – Alleanza Liberali is a Partit Liberali Xellugi and many of the members come from Dom Mintoff’s Front Maltin Inqumu. We are of the opinion that after the result of the European Parliament election, held on 6 June, some persons want to have fun with the fact that Alleanza Liberali gathered more votes than Alpha Liberali Demokratika; probably the news item published on Tuesday has to do with this.

I would also like to mention that after the EP election we received calls from certain Alternattiva Demokratika and Libertas persons to join our party. Over 200 members are currently signed to Alleanza Liberali, and the party keeps on growing.

In the meantime, we would like to assure your readers that Alleanza Liberali is going to continue administering our Valletta office. Regular contacts are kept with other European liberal parties and also with Liberal International. We are also keeping regular contacts with ELDR in Brussels. In fact, we were glad with the warm welcome which we received on 16 April for the launch of the ELDR EP election 2009 manifesto.

It is important to note that we were the only party to include the issues of divorce, gay marriages and rights, abortion and other progressive rights in our manifesto. More information on our electoral manifesto can be obtained from our website: www.freewebs.com/liberalalliance or from our TV station on http://worldtv.com/alleanza_liberali-malta.

I take this opportunity to thank all those who voted for me in the European Parliament election and promise them that until I am healthy I will continue to fight for their rights. In the meantime, if no longer in a position to lead the party there already is an alternative leader ready to take over. All we need is that the Maltese think European and free their minds.

John Zammit

Leader, Alleanza Liberali,

Valletta
