On Saturday, the MCA Summer League continued with Overseas CC playing Melita CC in the first game while Marsa CC played Krishna CC in the second.
Overseas batted first in the first game with Phil Gibbs and Sebastian Le Barth opening the batting. Gibbs scored two runs while Le Barth made 25 runs including two fours and a six.
Richard Newbould scored one run and Joe Wilson top scored with thirty nine runs including five fours and a six. Sean Duffy (six runs), Piers Allen (seven runs not out), Roger Bradley (three runs) and Peter Bradley (no runs) did not make it over double figures.
Overseas were bowled out in the 16th over and totalled 98 runs. For Melita Will Nicholls was the main wicket taker with four wickets. Firoz and Malcolm Crabbe took a wicket each.
In reply Melita made the runs in the 17th over. Joy Ghoseroy opened the batting and made 51 runs including seven fours before being run out. Colin WIllis (five runs) and Justin Brooke (two runs) were also run out.
Firoz remained not out on 23 runs. Tony Slater made two runs being caught and bowled by Sebastian Le Barth, being the only wicket taker for Overseas.
Melita gained eight points from the win while Overseas earned one point.
In the second game Marsa CC batted first with Javed Shah and Sarfraz Ali opening the batting. Shah scored 12 runs while Ali scored two runs. Derrek Ali top scored with 40 runs including three sixes and three fours from 31 balls faced.
Ronnie Sacco scored 31 runs before being caught. Mike Caruana scored 19 runs not out and Vijay seven runs not out.
The Marsa team totalled 123 runs from their overs. For Krishna Nowell Khosla took three wickets, Tosif took two wickets and Andy Naudi one.
The highlight in the bowling came from two consecutive maiden overs, one bowled by Sam Dhandapani and the other by Kevin Krishna.
In reply Nowell Khosla scored 45 runs from 46 balls, Sam Dhandapani 25 runs, Andy Naudi six runs, Tosif two runs. John Grima played the innings of the day scoring 26 runs from 17 balls and was run out on the last ball of the innings trying to make the game a tie.
In the last over eight runs were needed to win. The four runs came from the first five balls. Krishna needed four runs to win or three runs to tie of the last ball. Grima was run out.
For Marsa Derrek Ali took three wickets and Dave Newton took two. Marsa earned seven points while Krishna earned one point.
Ladder: Marsa CC and Melita CC both 18 points, Krishna CC 13 points and Overseas CC 10 points.
