Mediterranean Games 2009: David Farrugia In with a chance for bronze in bowls

In bowls, David Farrugia will be vying for a bronze medal in the Pescara Mediterranean Games today when he plays Caner Makara of Turkey, after the Maltese athlete yesterday lost against Italian Emiliano Benedetti 12-0 in the semi-final.

Earlier, Farrugia had won 12-4 against Zaidi of Tunisia to qualify for the semi-finals after placing second in Pool 2.

Clive Farrugia 's debut in the Games ended yesterday with a perfect straight of 25/25. The youing Maltese shooter managed 23/25 earlier in the morning and 22,24,23 yesterday for a total of 117/125. Farrugia placed a creditable 11th overall.

After the barrage finals Falco Ennio of Italy won gold with 148. Achilleos Georgis of Cyprus won silver (147) after a shoot off with Terras Anthony of France who settled for bronze.

The golf competition came to an end yesterday when Andrew Borg finished in 13th place with a 73 score in the individual competition.

Christopher Bergedahl finished in 25th place while other Maltese golfer John Micallef Verelst could only end up third from last, above Zamperi and Al Gauri.

In the team event, Malta improved slightly with an eighth-place finish with a total of 617 shots.

The competition was won by Italy.

In sailing, Maya Podesta finished Race 6 of the Laser Radial in 12th place, out of 14 competitors.

The race was won by Sophie De Turkheim of France.
