I have seen the Renzo Piano plans and I must say that I was highly impressed by what he came up with. But I do have my reservations.
I am in agreement with what he has proposed for City Gate and the new Parliament. But I still cannot understand the concept behind the rebuilding of the old opera house. My impression is that it will be an unfinished project – even when it is completed.
I understand the reasoning behind protecting the ruins which have become a monument in themselves, but at the same time I cannot envisage what the theatre will look like once the plans are implemented.
But I am sure that Renzo Piano is seeing things that I’m not seeing. At least I hope so.
