60 Second Interview - Max Dingli

Malta Independent Sunday, 5 July 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Max’s life is spent working in the O&G Department (gynae to you and me) at Mater Dei Hospital, singing in his band Shilloo’s Tree and currently rehearsing for the re-run of Porn, The Musical - the original show developed by Malcolm Galea, Boris Cezek and Kris Spiteri, collectively known as Indiskarf - which is showing at Argotti Gardens in Floriana from 27 July to 2 August, and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland all throughout August. He occasionally eats, sleeps and socialises. His greatest dreams? Becoming a total music guru, learning to play 75 different instruments, extending his vocal range, writing the song of the century and fronting the best rock band in the world. In 10 years’ time, he hopes to be thriving in his particular medical speciality, playing to sold-out arenas with Shilloo’s Tree, running his own recording studio and being content with whatever happens to be on his plate at the time. Max, together with the rest of the cast of Porn, is extremely excited to be taking up the very first local musical to this prestigious festival.

How old are you? Star sign and date of birth?

Just barely 27; 28 in July for my lucky birthday. That would make me a Leo, born in 1981.

What would you like to be doing in 10 years’ time?

Creating something special… be it music, offspring, anything really.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Very little to do, lots of time to do it, and all of it fun.

What is your favourite occupation?

Rock star.

Significant other?

Yes, she is quite significant. In all the good ways, obviously.

What is your greatest fear?

I don’t have many fears, although I dislike heights and cockroaches.

What is it that you most value in your friends?

Their ability to buy the next round quickly. And those sentimental things like loyalty, honesty bla bla bla…

How would you like to die?

That sounds like something a Bond villain would say… I’d like it to be over before I notice.

What is your greatest

extravagance?

I don’t do extravagance very well; I can make do with or without most things equally well.

What is your greatest regret?

Not learning to play a musical

instrument when I was younger (work in progress… very slow progress.)

What is your most treasured possession?

Don’t have one… see two points up.

Which talent would you most like to have apart from the ones you already have?

Being vaguely useful at any form of sport would be pleasant.

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?

The point when I can find nothing to look forward to in the future… thankfully it’s never happened yet.

Where would you like to live?

It alternates between a desert island with no living soul in sight and exactly where I am at the moment, depending on the mood and traffic conditions.

What is your most marked

characteristic?

I’m a bit of an attention whore; I always like to be the centre of attention.

Who are your heroes/heroines in real life?

People who can create things of beauty: musicians, artists, architects. The two greatest: Douglas Adams and Freddie Mercury; both, sadly, dead.

What is it that you most

dislike?

Bigotry and holier-than-thou attitudes. The belief that some people have that they can tell you what to do because of their perceived moral superiority. The belief that anyone holds any moral right over anyone else.

What is your motto?

Live and let live.
