It saddens me to see this blatant disregard of Maltese and Tourists alike, when it comes to the supervision of Bathers on Gozo’s beaches (or lack there of).
I have been coming to this gem, The Island of Calypso, now for the past 25 years.
History and myth state that Ulysses’ was ship wrecked here and the Nymph Oggigia took him under her wing so to speak, so to all intents and purposes she was Gozo’s first Life Guard.
When Saint Paul supposedly was shipwrecked it was also written down in history.
It unfortunately seems that History has a way of repeating itself. Malta has Life guards. Fact. And Gozo? Myth!
I feel that a question must be asked, How many people need to be injured maimed or killed before this myth becomes fact?
I saw a rescue boat down at Mgarr Harbour yesterday, pardon my ignorance but should it not be out to sea rather than berthed?
