Cricket: Marsa CC Win series against Ovingdean CC 2-0

Over the weekend the Marsa C.C took on new touring team Ovingdean CC from the U.K.

On Saturday in a 35 over game, the Marsa team batted first. Nowell Khosla opened with Javed Shah and put on a 74 run partnership before being caught. Khosla made 33 runs including three fours and a six. Shah was then involved in another 72 run partnership with Andy Naudi. Shah scored 70 runs including ten fours.

Naudi then was involved in another big partnership with Ronnie Sacco worth a 109 runs. Naudi scored 74 runs including five fours. Sacco went on to score 50 runs.

The Marsa side totalled a massive 283 runs from their allotted overs which also included 44 extras. For Ovingdean, A. Hart, P. Walia and I. Robinson were the only wicket takers with a wicket each.

In reply the Ovingdean batsmen tried to hit hard to keep up with the required run rate which included plenty of risky shots which did not pay off. L. Selway and J. Amin top scored with 15 runs each. The visitors were bowled out for 64 runs. Mike Caruana was the main wicket taker with three wickets while Firoz took two. Marsa go one up in the series.

On Sunday the Marsa team batted first, this time in a 20 over format. Sarfraz Ali was run out within the first couple of overs for one run. Andy Lenard scored 20 runs from 20 balls. Joy Ghoseroy scored 42 runs, Tousif scored 50 runs including three sixes and two fours. Regan Hobbs scored 20 runs not out and Derek Ali 15 runs not out. The Marsa team totalled 183 runs from their allotted overs. P. Walia was the only wicket taker.

In reply the visitors put on a much better display then the day before. They totalled 152 runs. L.Selway made 40 runs including four fours and a six, N. Boe scored 36 runs, while P. Walia and J. Amin chipped in with 12 runs each.

For Marsa Derek Ali was the main wicket taker with three. Marsa win the series two to nil.

On Wednesday Marsa CC will play newcomers Marple CC in a 20 over game. Over the weekend Marsa CC take on returning team Stockport Grammar School in a two game series.
