Hibernians’ hopes of making it to the second qualifying round of the Champions League against NK Mogren of Macedonia were severely dented after a 2-0 home defeat last week.

The gap in class between the two sides was more evident yesterday when the Maltese champions suffered a 4-0 drubbing in Podgorica in the return match to crush out on a 6-0 aggregate.

As planned, Hibernians went out in search of an early goal and by the first quarter hour they had three efforts at goal by Cohen and Herrera and even forced some corner. Hibernians were without midfielder Callejas, who dwas not included in the squad.

But Mogren were not to be taken by surprise and by the half hour they started to exert some pressure. On 35 minutes Miller put in Rumen Galabov for Jonathan Pearson.

Hibernians miserably collapsed to concede two goals in quick succession, four minutes before the break. Bozo Milic scored on 41 minutes and in the half’s added time, Peter Grbic made it 2-0 for the hosts to practically dump all of the Paolites’ flickering hopes.

Milic and Rakic were rested by the Mogren coach for the second half but the Montenegro champions continued to dominate and even scored their third six minutes after resumption through Marko Cetkovic.

Mogren remained by far the more superior and after going close through Kalezic and Bozovic, Peter Grbic scored his second and his side’s fourth goal on 80 minutes to put qualification beyond any shadow of doubt.
