I have always respected Stephen Calleja’s comments and have appreciated the support he has given to me regarding my letters and comments in the past.

However, I was shocked to read his comments about Astrid Vella (TMIS, 5 July). They were totally uncalled for and – in my humble opinion – barbaric and not worthy of a journalist of his supposed calibre.

Ms Vella has done, and is doing, a marvellous job in trying to make Malta a better place so that future generations of Maltese can enjoy what is left of the Maltese archipelago.

Perhaps he could try to do the same.
