10 Maltese Athletes at Austria Ironman race

Ten Maltese athletes have taken part in the Austria Ironman race held last week in Klagenfurt.

These were Dermot Galea, Nathan Farrugia, George Vella, Kevin Borg, William Brydon, Daniel Callus, Cliff Sultana, Danica Spiteri, Donatelle Callus and Mario Bugeja.

It was the first time ever that Maltese women were taking part in an Ironman race. Danica Spiteri finished in a time of 12 hrs 31 mins 09secs while Donatelle Callus completed the event in 12 hrs 45 mins 39 secs.

Dermot Galea finished first among the males in a time of 9 hours 35.16 minutes while Nathan Farrugia was second in 10 hours 16.14 minutes. Third was George Vella in 10 hours 42.29 minutes.

The Maltese group received sponsorships from various companies to be able to take part. They had been collecting donations for Inspire, the newly set up Eden/Razzett foundation on www.simplygiving.org.mt
