I refer to Stefan Zahra’s letter with the above subject (TMID, 22 July).

There is no doubt that every individual has his own way of viewing things. So much so that the Maltese language has a proverb, which literally translated means, “hundred people, hundred opinions”.

However, I would like to take the opportunity to thank the many residents and visitors alike who complimented the St Paul’s Bay local council for the placing of pots along the part of the Bugibba promenade. The festoon lighting along the promenade, also recently installed, will also help to enhance the locality.

At the same time residents within the whole locality of St Paul’s Bay can rest assured that the council will be doing its utmost to ensure that the whole area is upgraded.

That is why we are all the time insisting that the particular realities of this locality are recognised by one and all. So far the council gets the necessary money to cater for all year round residents, in reality for those who have their name on the electoral register.

Many others live here, without their name listed on the electoral register.

Up to now, no other funds are granted to take care of the reality that for nearly six months of the year the population of the locality quadruples. With the local council reform, this reality is to be considered in the financial allocation. Those who want to help us get a better place should make sure that they help us in our campaign to get better funding.

During the past few months the council obtained direct help from the government, purposely earmarked for the resurfacing of a number of streets. We still need more money to make the necessary resurfacing in other areas.

In so far as the expense of the Sirens public toilets in Triq San Geraldu are concerned, this has been discussed during the council meetings. Minutes of these meetings, once approved, are available for the public to see.

This public convenience was rebuilt because the old one was not up to standard. The local council has also been allocated part of the funds by MEPA under a scheme which MEPA itself established some years back.

With regards to Bay Square toilets, which one must remark, where continuously vandalised, there is a planned development. Further details can be obtained from MEPA.

Finally, I would like to thank all those who, in some way or another, help this locality, with all its different realities, to move forward.
