Mellieha Bay Hazard

Malta Independent Sunday, 9 August 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Green central strips, even during the summer months, embellish our environment. But this should be done without causing any hazards both to drivers and pedestrians.

Recently, I passed through Mellieha Bay on my way to Valletta and noticed the high bushes in the central strip. I was glad I did because on my return I nearly ran over two foreigners who emerged through these high bushes and I had to stop to avoid injuring them. The traffic behind me nearly crashed into me because of my sudden stop.

Although there are zebra crossings along the bay and even traffic lights, there are those who prefer to use the shortest way to reach their parked car.

Those concerned should note that such high bushes should be cut back and kept low to avoid fatalities.
