Of course, now that the members of the Ghaqda Residenti Ta’ Santa Maria Estate in Mellieha have built and reside in their villas in the once beautiful valley of Ghajn Zejtuna, they congratulate the residents of Wied il-Madonna for stopping development in that valley.
The Ghajn Zejtuna valley has been destroyed to such an extent that the natural drainage of rainwater through the valley is blocked and when it rains, the ensuing torrential floods gush down the roads ending at the Xatt ta’ Santa Maria above the boathouses, so much so that the local council had to demolish part of the low wall for the rainwater to drain quickly to the sea. All this when a few metres away there is a natural valley through which the rainwater could pass.
But members of the Ghaqda Residenti Ta’ Santa Maria do not see this. They enjoy what is left of their valley and declare themselves to be “valley vigilantes” to keep the valley safe from further destruction.
Don’t make us laugh!
