On Saturday the MCA Summer league came to an end. Melita C.C played Krishna C.C in the first game and Marsa C.C played Overseas C.C in the second game.
Melita batted first with Chris Naudi opening the batting had the innings of to a flying start scoring 30 runs off 18 balls including five fours and a six before being bowled. His partner Anthony Roberts went on to make 34 runs.
Andy Lenard batted very well scoring fifty four runs not out including four fours and two sixes. Firoz was the only other batsman to make it over double figures scoring 16 runs and also played the shot of the day switch hitting a ball for six. Melita totalled 150 runs from their overs. Pierre Naudi was the main wicket taker for Krishna taking two wickets.
In reply Andy Naudi scored 15 runs, Tosif 25, Kevin Krishna 15, Ganeesh 16 and Regan Hobbs 17 runs not out. The match winning innings came from the number three batsman John Grima who scored a marvellous 51 runs not out and led his team to victory. In his innings he scored six fours. Anthony Roberts was the main wicket taker for Melita with two wickets.
In the second game Marsa batted first and lost Angelo Spiteri in the first over of the game. Mark G.Sacco was the next to go. Mike Caruana scored a fine 54 runs including eight fours. Ronnie Sacco made 19 runs, Darren Grech made 16 runs and Derek Ali scored 26 not out including a massive six.
The Marsa side totalled 149 runs of their allotted overs. John Callus was the main wicket taker for Overseas with two while Joe Wilson, Roger Bradley and Peter Bradley took a wicket each.
The Overseas’ reply was amazing and had the Marsa team worried with the first wicket falling at 71 runs with Joe Wilson being the first out scoring 34 runs including seven fours. John Callus was next to go scoring 37 runs including five fours and a six. After these two batsmen were out there was a collapse and Sean Duffy managed to make ten runs not out. Overseas managed to make 130 runs and were bowled out. For Marsa Mike Caruana was the main wicket taker with four.
Marsa win the game and win the league. Final standings Marsa C.C 43 points, Krishna C.C 31 points, Melita C.C 23 points and Overseas C.C 20 points. Well done Marsa C.C. A big thank you to the umpires and scorers throughout the league.
Next Saturday the Chairman’s XI will play against the Captain’s XI in a 50 over game starting at 10.30 am.
