Malta’s under-21 side yesterday obtained an away victory against Albania in a friendly played in Durres.

The side led by Edwin Camilleri managed to turn the tide in it’s favour with two panalties scored after suffering Albania’s lead.

In the Niko Dovana Stadium Albania took the lead on 35 minutes when Amet Jonuzi beat the Malta goalkeeper.

But Malta were back on level terms four minutes later when warren Chircop converted from the penalty spot.

In the second half malta obtained the winner twenty minutes from time when the locals were awarded the second penalty of the match, and Tyron Farrugia made no mistake from the spot.

This was a morale booster for Malta’s U-21 side for the forthcoming matches in Group 8 of the European qualifiers.

Malta already played two matches in this Group, suffering two defeats at home against Slovenia 0-2, and a solitary goal defeat against Ukraine away from home.

Malta’s next match in the Group will be against belgium at Ta’ Qali on 4 September.
