Valerie Borg chastises the Nationalist government ministers and MPs for ‘‘getting away with it’’ while in government and thinking that they can get away with ‘‘murder’’ (TMID, 20 August).

May I remind Ms Borg that if the same rules applied in the Socialist era we would have had a government with no Cabinet and ruled by a sole dictator which, incidentally, is what we effectively had, since the ministers at the time were a bunch of ‘yes’ men and women.

Although Ms Borg praises Victor Scerri for resigning as Nationalist Party President in connection with the Bahrija case, may I also remind her that the only commendable resignations from the Labour Party came from ministers who realised that the party was on the wrong track and preferred not to be part of a ‘smoke and mirror’ team which duped businesses and the public.

Dr Scerri resigned in order to be free from any possibility of somehow obtaining any unfair advantage in Mepa’s decisions by virtue of the position he held within his party and not remotely connected with the possibility of any wrongdoing on his part. In time he will be vindicated.

Ms Borg will do better if she stops finding the minutest reason for calling the kettle black.
