Having just returned from our annual holiday to the Greek Islands, I could not help but notice the exorbitant prices we have to pay here in Malta for our 90-minute trip to Sicily with Virtu Ferries.
Last month, I paid e44 per adult for a return 90-minute crossing to a Greek island from Piraeus on a very large, fast, luxury catamaran very similar to that used for the Malta to Sicily crossing. A 90-munute return crossing from Malta to Pozzallo with Virtu Ferries costs e137 per adult! Unbelievable! Virtu Ferries have the nerve to charge more than three times the amount charged in Greece! Just in case one wants to corroborate, just log on to www.hellenicseaways.gr
This is nothing short of daylight robbery! The Virtu Ferries monopoly is literally taking us Maltese for a ride while becoming rich at our expense!
Shameful is the only word to describe such high fares.
