Malta’s Tony Drago and Alex Borg will be in the Philippines next week to represent Malta in the 2009 Party Casino World Cup of Pool organised by Matchroom Sport. The tournament starts on Tuesday 1 September and comes an end on Sunday 6 September with the Final.
Drago and Borg will compete against 31 other pairs from all over the world in this World Cup that offers a total prize-fund of $250,000 including the winners’ purse of $60,000.
The tournament will be staged at the SM City North Mall in the Philippines capital, Manila. The SM City North Mall is Manila’s original major mall and the second largest in the world. The Mall also plays host to exhibitions and sports events with nearly 2.2 million people visiting the Mall everyday.
The Maltese team will be in action on Tuesday at 6pm (Philippines time) when they meet defending champions Team USA in the first round. The American team is composed of Rodney Morris and Shane Van Boening.
The Americans will have a big job on their hands to hold onto their title as they will have a great challenge from other teams including the home favourites team of Francisco Bustamante and Efren Reyes, winners in the inaugural edition in 2006.
Once again all matches in the World Cup of Pool will be broadcast by Matchroom Sport in about 25 countries around the world.
