I thoroughly concur with Ms Cachia’s statement that we poor mortals are being taken for a ride by Virtu Ferries due to its monopoly.
I venture to add that my husband owns a 4-wheel drive, which is considered a “commercial” vehicle. Virtu Ferries has decided that all commercial vehicles fall under the same category as trailers and other heavy commercial vehicles, which is utterly ridiculous. We use our vehicle for pleasure trips and not for business purposes.
Two years ago, the price for the vehicle to cross from Malta to Catania was one third of the price we are being asked to pay now. We have been travelling to and fro for the past eight years, but we have now opted to hire a car on our arrival in Sicily, since it works out cheaper and Virtu Ferries can keep its exorbitant prices.
Shame on the company when there is a global recession on and it still has not given any leeway on the prices it charges.
