Way back in 1972 I returned to Malta to teach about issues pertaining to health and family in education.
Two particular issues were dealt with – the indiscriminate use of antibiotics and the parents’ habit of taking anti depressants in front of their children, in effect almost boasting about their depression.
Unfortunately, the issues had been scoffed at by some untrained teachers, who thought they could convey a family living ideal to their students unaided by scientific knowledge.
This type of health education has, fortunately, been included within the remit of the teachers’ curricula since then.
