Malta will be represented at the forthcoming World Championships which are to get underway tomorrow at the Mediolanum Forum in Milan and will come to an end on Saturday 12 September.
Amongst the 600 boxers participating is Haithem Laamouz, Malta's entry in the 60 kg class. This category is one of the most heavily contested and there are no fewer than 82 boxers competing in this weight division.
Haithem, whose participation and final preparations for these world championships was made possible through a generous grant from the International Boxing Association (AIBA), has been in Milan the past few days and is assisted by MBF national coach Scott Dixon and Malta team manager Steve Abela.
More than 600 boxers from 140 countries are set to contest the 11 weight categories, making it the most popular world championships in AIBA history.
More than 50 million people worldwide are expected to tune in to watch the 600 boxing matches.
